Well, I got in touch with the shipping line and was told that the boat was on its way to Liverpool and that when it arrived they would forward the package on to me. This they did and I duly handed it over to Winnie’s father in Carlisle.
After a brief holiday it was a case of going to Loughborough and finding temporary accommodation whilst looking for a property to buy. We moved into a small private hotel, The De Montfort Hotel, situated just across the main Leicester Road from Southfields Park.

At the other side of the park was Victoria Street where we had lived before we went to Cyprus. Our old hut had been demolished and council houses had been put up in its place. Pity, because I’d have loved to have bought the land and had a house built on it.
I reported to Beaumanor and got a date for starting back to work and then it was all go, sifting through the accommodation available for sale. We must have looked at hundreds of properties in the area and eventually finished up agreeing to buy a new three bedroomed bungalow which was in the process of being built on an estate in Loughborough. When we decided to buy the property, which was to become 62 Farndale Drive we saw that the three bedrooms were in fact two very large bedrooms and one small bedroom so we asked the builders if it would be possible to move the adjoining walls of the bedrooms so that we would have three bedrooms of equal size. They agreed to this so we finished up with three double bedrooms. Incidentally, when our bungalow was being completed a number of other buyers decided that they would also like their bungalows modified as well.
