After we had been living in the bungalow for a few months one of our neighbours (Joan Gardiner) was talking to Sheila and she remarked that she and her husband (Alf) ran a dance at Filey and that we would be most welcome to join them. The dance was held at one of the hotels, namely 'The White Lodge' and we decided to give it a try. We were introduced to the group that Alf and Jean were in and thoroughly enjoyed our first night at this dancing. Included in this group were a couple called Anne and Conway Harper and we appeared to bond with them straight away, to such an extent that we became what I would call 'Best Friends'. In fact we were almost like family rather that just friends. We used to go to each others houses for meals and were also introduced to their daughter 'Andrea' and son in law 'Andrew' who still refer to us as 'part of our family'. Whenever they had a party or barbeque we were always invited. This applied particularly at Christmas time where we had a standing invitation to the Christmas festivities at Anne and Conways for Christmas and Boxing day with a stop over at their house and a New Year party at Andrew and Andreas so we never had to spend the festive season on our own. There was also dance parties at the various halls we use to go to for entertainment. As well as going to the White Lodge for dancing we had now progressed to Sequence Dancing. For the uninitiated, Sequence dancing is ballroom dancing with everyone doing the same steps at the same time. New sequences come out on a regular basis and each of these sequences is given a name such as the Mayfair quickstep of Tango sereda. Those are two of the old sequences.
